Back here again at Fart Tartz for the 2nd time with K!

I love the cafe's layout and lighting and its near home! Both times, we strolled home after making ourselves satisfied with the desserts we have here!

 photo file_zps8f9bf90e.jpg

We had Strawberry Soda S$4.50 instead of coffee today. Unlike us!

 photo file_zps7b901f3b.jpg

No need to guess, I bet you can tell what are these desserts!

Tiramisu S$6.80

I was a little sad after Fart Tartz revised their opening hours, which means that I can't visit after work anymore. But they are opened since 8am, so people also must rest. I always have weekends to go visit since its so near home!

I can't wait to go back to try more of their desserts in jar! They also have tarts now. NOM NOM! Till then!

'Dance to a dazzling Mid-Autumn' Mooncakes 2014 @ Breadtalk

BreadTalk
Click here for all BreadTalk's outlets

BreadTalk’s 2014 mooncake selection is available at all outlets island-wide from 19 July to 8 September 2014.

Coming 8th September 2014 is Mid-Autumn Festival. We waited a whole year for these mooncakes, as we only get to eat them once a year. The season always get me feeling all excited!

This Mid-Autumn Festival, BreadTalk unveils a dazzling collection of 5 exquisitely-designed mooncake boxes; each comprising a delectable assortment of popular and new flavours of baked and snow skin mooncakes that will definitely add a sparkle to the occasion.

Centred on the theme of ‘Dance to a dazzling Mid-Autumn’, BreadTalk aims to conjure the rousing spirit of this festival when family and friends get together with these beautifully-crafted gems nestled in elegant oriental-chic packaging adorned with a gleaming motif inspired by rabbits and butterflies; timeless symbols of the Mid-Autumn season.

Do you like baked or snowskin mooncakes? Well, I usually will choose Traditional Baked Mooncakes, but after trying Breadtalk's SnowSkin Mooncakes, I was in a dilemma so I am choosing both Baked & Snowskin this time!

Snowskin Mooncakes

 photo file_zps2aa0e6dd.jpg

Snowskin mooncakes in the recent years have evolved from the plain old Pandan Skin Lotus Paste fillings to Durian, Jackfruit, Lychee, Yuzu and many more. Some are still not as good as plain old ones.

Made with a proprietary recipe, these BreadTalk's snow skin versions use premium ingredients that are bound to surprise with each mouthful.

Love this cherry blossom pink box (also available in brilliant turquoise) with a luminous bronze-embossed print of the mid-autumn motif, these vibrant boxes will bring much joy to the recipient as it did to me. I am so in love with the box and of course the moon cakes.

And before i go on to the mooncakes, I also like the paper bag, usually mooncakes paper bags are really squarish as the boxes are laid horizontally, and it makes the overall very bulky, these at Breadtalk, are different!

The boxes are placed straight up into the paper back, instead of lying down, and i thought this is a great idea!
The moon cakes were individually wrapped and sealed and places nicely into the box, even when the box is place straight up into the paper bag, it doesn't cause any damage to the mooncakes, I can easily carry a few boxes without any problem!

 photo file_zps6f50aaba.jpg

JOYOUS S$52.80 for a box of 8 mini mooncakes, consisting of 4 different flavours (2 each)

Perfect for gifts, this simply adorned with a butterfly knot, JOYOUS showcases an auspicious 8 mini snow skin mooncakes, each enveloping a truffle with different tantalising flavours.

Read on as I reveal the flavours!

 photo file_zps9d4ae241.jpg

Mini Coffee Baileys Truffle Mooncake & Mini Whiskey Truffle Mooncake featuring above!

My favourite is this alluring Mini Coffee Baileys Truffle Mooncake, it is very hard to choose a favourite as they are all almost equally good. Wanted to say ''Coffee lovers sure won't want to miss this!'', but when my brother was trying this (he doesn't drink coffee, not even a coffee lover for sure), ''this is like the best snow skin mooncake ever!''. His favourite among all too!

Then brother was skeptical to try the Mini Whiskey Truffle Mooncake, however I kept assuring and pestering him, he tried and he said ''this is good too!!!' *eyes open wide*

One thing about the snowskin moon cakes here at Breadtalk this year, they are all so velvety smooth!

Biting into the soft mochi-like skin, combining it with the Valrhona chocolate truffle and the respective different tempting fillings such as 12-year old Macallan whisky and Baileys Irish Cream, I have never tasted anything like this! *thumbs up*

 photo file_zpsc540843c.jpg

Double Chocolate Truffle Mooncake & Black Sesame Truffle Mooncake.

This rich & velvety double chocolate is a safe choice but chocolate never goes wrong!

I am always not a fan of Black Sesame, however I could tell that this Black Sesame Truffle Mooncake is smooth and fragrant. I know this is perfect for Black Sesame lover since my mum sang all praises for it!

Baked Mooncakes

BreadTalk’s repertoire of baked mooncakes; including the irresistible limited edition Hello Kitty rendition, possess a thin golden brown moist pastry encompassing a generous filling crafted with premium preservative- free natural white lotus. More notably, trehalose (海藻糖), a premium sweetening ingredient that is less sweet than regular sugar is used in the mooncakes. Select varieties encompass a special egg yolk blend which is evenly distributed within the mooncake so that every slice renders a proportionate amount of egg yolk, while others include the olive kernel; an expensive ingredient generally reserved for use in Chinese medicine.

 photo file_zpsc4a8ff92.jpg

Featuring here is a box of INDULGENCE B S$48.80 a box of 4 pieces Lotus with Melon Seeds, melon seeds add bite and flavour to the smooth lotus paste, most importantly it is not overly sweet!
My family loves mooncakes without yolk.

 photo file_zpsbb943e96.jpg

 photo file_zps1cb694b1.jpg

Put a smile on faces with this eye-catching cheery orange offering with favourite baked mooncakes! As you can see from the above, each mooncake is individually packed and sealed in plastic, and they are also packed into individual boxes with gold motifs. Can give to friends who doesn't want a full box of mooncakes.

 photo file_zps0cf5fa95.jpg

There is another version that comes in the same packaging but it is INDULGENCE A S$52.80 for a box of 4 pieces Lotus with Yolk Blend. Lotus with Yolk Blend provides a pleasing savoury and sweet combination.

Other few Baked Mooncakes

HELLO KITTY S$38.80 for a box of 4 pieces (Lotus with Macadamia and Lotus with Cranberries) (2 each)
Limited Edition. Definitely the most ‘kawaii’ among the collection, this adorable pretty-in-pink treasure chest with a shiny gold clasp reveals four pieces of petite mooncakes embossed with this well-loved Sanrio character’s face and insignia.

PRESTIGE A S$58.80 for a box of 4 pieces ‘Wu Ren’ + Olive Kernel with single yolk (2 each)

PRESTIGE B S$53.80 for for a box of 4 pieces Lotus with yolk blend + Lotus with Macadamia & yolk blend) (2 each)
A picture of sophistication with its luminous gold-embossed print against the understated dark brown background embellished with a white silk bow, PRESTIGE presents four individually box-packed mooncakes with a choice of either ‘Wu Ren’ and Olive Kernel with Single Yolk or Lotus with Yolk Blend and Lotus with Macadamia and Yolk Blend combination.

Mooncakes

Salty Tau Sar (Single Yolk) Mooncakes 咸豆沙月饼 S$25.80 for a box of 4 pieces. They have a large one available which is selling for S$22.80.

Picked from savoury mung bean filling which has been prepared with the utmost care from scratch, encompasses a blend of salty mung bean paste with a single egg yolk, fried shallots, white sesame and seasoned with white pepper.

I am a salty tau sar piah lover anytime! If you can tell from the above picture, the egg yolk is really special and unlike those egg yolks in typical traditional mooncakes. It blends well together with the mung bean paste, it makes me feel less sinful this way.

 photo file_zpse362f66b.jpg

Sweet Tau Sar Mooncakes 甜豆沙月饼 S$25.80 for a box of 4 pieces. They have a large one available which is selling for S$22.80.

This sweet rendition comprises of sweet mung bean filling and melon seeds, smooth and fragrant.

Are you a sweet tau sar piah lover?

 photo file_zpsc768672f.jpg

Yuan Yang 鸳鸯月饼 S$25.80 for a box of 4 pieces.

Brimming with a generous filling of savoury mung bean paste, fried shallots, white sesame, spicy pork floss (yes, you read right!) and salted egg yolk, this novel creation is also accented with a proprietary spice mix.

Firstly, its savoury mung bean so I love it!

Secondly, it does have a little bit of spice, not that spicy but a little pepperish prick on the tongue!

 photo file_zps678c68cc.jpg

Teochew Double Delight 潮州双拼月饼 S$25.80 for a box of 4 pieces.

I find this special too! I didn't know tau sar piah can have such fanciful ingredients!

Savour the double delights of red bean paste and a unique 'crystal' filling made with winter melon, melon seeds, citrus strips, white sesame, spring onions and glutinous rice flour.

 photo file_zps57146113.jpg

Once I bite into this piece of mooncake, I could feel the crunch of the winter melon and citrus strips. Not crunch as in crunchy type, its still soft but you can bite into bits & pieces of the sweet good stuff!

 photo file_zpscc22bb25.jpg

My mum insisted that I put all the 4 halves on the plate, so I have to take a shot but not a good one though :P

She is also all excited about the mooncakes.

Those who loves exotic flavours (who doesn't right??), you can try this!

Durian 榴莲月饼 Mooncakes S$34.80 for a box of 4 pieces.

The Royal Mail Bar is the extended beverage arm of The Royal Mail Restaurant, established in 2002.

We past by this a couple of times, and I thought this place is very pretty, am still thinking this is a very pretty and peaceful place.

Last night, I finally get to try the cocktails at The Royal Mail Bar and I am very excited to share this with you! Not only the prices of the drinks are easy on your pocket, they are very soothing and perfect for a evening after shagging it out at work.

 photo file_zps13f0fc9d.jpg

A trademark of the bar is the eye-catching round conter where revellers can ensconce themselves and savour cocktails as well as British-Inspired bar grub. The bar's collection of spirits and whiskeys are also displayed in its full glory.

So, after 2 years, The Royal Mail Bar introduces new speciality cocktails and British-Inspired tapas to its menus.

The facelift draws inspiration from the evolving bar culture in Singapore, where there is an increasing demand for creative drinks that really serve to impress customers based in its ingredients, presentation and originality.

Culminating 3 months of hard work by the Kitchen and bar team, they have conceptualised a revitalised direction for the bar offering with exciting choices. Guests can expect an appetising range of specialty cocktails, a well-curated range of whiskeys and spirits, as well as bar grub that boast modern Bristish sensibilities.

Drinks: Whiskey/Cocktail/Martini

Using everyday ingredients, the bar's resident bartender has whipped up 15 new concoctions. The recipes are borne out of his search for intriguing and flavourful drinks.

K started off with Yamazaki 12 years S$30.

 photo file_zps641e5d65.jpg

Timeless English S$18 - brewed Earl Grey Tea shaken with Vodka and Sweet & Sour. The bergamot oil in tea leaves delights with its incredible aroma.

This is one of their signature drinks.

 photo file_zps6bd7b547.jpg

A Day of Summer S$18 - Orange juice shaken with Baileys, Amaretto and Bols Triple Sec. Its a milky citrus mix with fresh notes of almond.

 photo file_zpsf659172d.jpg

I start off with Chocolate Dream S$18 - Shaken Baileys, Kahlua and Vodka poured onto a swirl of Chocolate Syrup, topped with Roasted Marshmellows.

I love this drink. You have to try at least once!

 photo file_zps580766ab.jpg

Another 1 of their signature is Old Fashioned Spice S$18 - a smokey combination of Bourbon with Honey, Cloves and a burning stick of Cinnamon.

Teach an old drink new tricks with the reinvention of the classic men's drink with honey and clove infusion.

The both of us with our drinking companion last night, love this! Even K, someone who dislikes cinnamon also love this. I guess it is the hot favourite here. *Thumbs up*

 photo file_zpsbc31301d.jpg

We want to wake up at the Wrong Side of the Bed S$18 muahahaha.

Another one of my favourite, I am sorry, too many favourites, I ended my night trying hard to choose a favourite from the favourites. No, I am not having a hangover now. XD

It is a shot of Espresso shaken with Vodka, Kahlua and Baileys. I think this is for coffee lovers, or maybe not. Almost for everyone!

 photo file_zpsd7af981e.jpg

Would you like to Be My (Man)go S$18 ? Mango Puree blended with Run & Sugar. A fruity take on the classic daiquiri drink!

Well, what you see here might not be what you will be getting, because its all melted. Its supposed to look lil a margarita, frozen kind of drink.

 photo file_zpsdcb1e724.jpg

We were all pleased with all the drinks! And I apologise for the bad pictures as its a bar, so its not very brightly lilted. But we have a good helper, my fiancé, K. He helped me and my friends with the lightings, holding 2 iPhones XD it must be a funny sight.

 photo file_zps8f36c216.jpg

 photo file_zpsb44ff151.jpg

Tina Funfetti S$18 - blended mix of Baileys, Chocolate Syrup, Milk and Butterscotch with a drizzle of Grenadine and sprinkles. A very ladies drink or a boozy milkshake for the kid with a sweet tooth in you.

I kept have pronunciation problem with ''funfetti'' last night, but when I was typing this and reading it out, I have no problem. I think you can test your friends if they are still sober, by pronouncing this word. I kept getting ''funtini'' ''funfetini'', I hope the rest don't realise that.

 photo file_zps65e66dfa.jpg

Moulin Rouge S$18 - flame-torches Star Anise and Cherry shaken with Gin, Sweet & Sour and Lime Juice. A little sweet, spunky, and leaves you wanting more.

 photo file_zpsbee102c0.jpg

Or would you like a Plum Job S$18 instead? Sour Plum Powder shaken with Vodka and Sprite, garnished with a Sour Plum for a lingering taste. Hazel & I love this too! The sweet and salty taste of the Plum Job is appetising to me.

 photo file_zps4d248659.jpg

 photo file_zpsd220a448.jpg

 photo file_zps7856ce18.jpg

Lovestruck Ginny S$18 - Gin shaken with Watermelon Juice, Sugar Syrup, Mint Leaves and Sweet & Sour. Concocted by one who was struck by love at first sight. We all felt that it taste like watermelon juice, or our threshold for alcohol content increase for the night. For those who want a light alcohol drink, this is perfect!

 photo file_zps2d220a5a.jpg

Lastly, Apple of my Eye S$18 - muddled Green Apple Slices shaken with vodka, Frangelico, Sour Apple and Egg White for frothy finish. They use 1 whole apple for a martini, so you get all the nutritional goodness of a whole green apple in this glass!

These homemade roasted chips are enticingly crispy on their own; dip them into the salsa and the enjoyment is increased manifold.

''Our new bar grub menu focuses on working the taste-buds of guests as they enjoy our improved menu - especially with the new specialty cocktails. As the tastes of these new cocktails vary differently from the classic alcoholic drinks, we had to give the new drinks a good try before working on complementing its taste. Hence, the teamwork behind this menu revamp is crucial to what our guests can experience and enjoy.'' said Group Executive Chef, Chef Micail Chepi.
