Singapore Restaurant Month 2016!

Singapore Restaurant Month is back again this year from 1st July 2016 to 31st July 2016, with a total of 46 participating restaurants, of which 22 are new restaurants. If you remember last year's local produce theme, this year the theme is healthy dining. These 46 restaurants brands introduced 95 healthy dishes.

For the restaurants to qualify, the dishes must contain 500 calories or less and/or at least 8% of each dish must contain wholegrain such as oatmeal, brown rice and wholemeal bread. All creations have to be approved by certified HPB nutritionists. Do look out for the striking red ''Healthier Choice'' indicators in the menu! We tried out 4 of these restaurants.

1. UNA

Coca De Higos Y Foie Con Vermouth S$26 (384.1 calories)

As this is the healthier dining theme, counting calories is required.

Foie gras and grilled figs on a crispy Spanish flatbread with vermouth reduction. You will love it if you can accept foie gras.

Another healthy dish available: Cogollos Con Idiazabal Y Anchoas Ahumadas (Grilled Spanish Sucrine lettuce, Idiazabel cheese form, smoked anchovies and pomegranate) (260 calories)

2. Earle Swensens

Address: 1 HarbourFront Walk, #02-117, VivoCity Singapore 098585

Baked Hoisin Cod Fish S$35.90 (470.2 calories)

Would prefer the skin to be crispier. Retaining the impression I have of Swensens, the hoisin sauce makes the whole dish very ''asian''.

3. Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant

Address: 80 Raffles Place, #60-01 UOB Plaza 1, Singapore 048624

Double-boiled White Fungus in Pear Vessel S$15 (454.2 calories)

Wasn't expecting much when I saw this dish's name on the menu. When it was served, I was in awe. Presentation is 100 marks! And I was surprised that the pear still retains its crunchiness, because the one my mum makes at home is very soft.

Other dishes available: Premium Truffle Salad (261.4 calories) & Healthy Eight Treasure Rice (870.9 calories, higher in wholegrains)

4. The Soup Spoon Union

Address: 252 North Bridge Road, #B1-77/78 Raffles City Shopping Centre

Grilled Salmon with Cauliflower Rice S$15.80 (486.3 calories)

Really like how crispy the skin is. Its drizzled with black pepper sauce. The cauliflower rice tasted totally healthy to us, its amazing there is such a dish.

Other dishes here: Grilled Cod Fish with Cauliflower Rice (381 calories) & Grilled Portobello Mushroom with Cauliflower Rice (284.7)

Thank you RAS, UNA, Earle Swensens, Si Chuan Dou Hua & The Soup Spoon for hosting.
