Royal China + Mooncakes

30TH AUGUST 2011 TUESDAY
(Scheduled post)

Its Public Holiday today due to Hari Raya Puasa. Boyfriend & I made reservation for dim sum at Raffles Hotel's Royal China.
They placed us sitting beside a full length mirror, and I got to camwhore non stop with my phone & camera.

Pouring tea for us

A light blue chinese restaurant
Now here comes the food! Chee Cheong Fun.
Porridge
Char Siew Shou
Fu Pi Juan
This...... The staff said normally customers have to order in advance, but due to the public holiday, they have it and ask if we want. Nice & crispy but I am not a fan of this very porky taste, so I had only 1-2 pieces :P
My favourite of all dim sum - Har Gow
I dislike Siew Mai but this Siew Mai is very nice! It has this herbal kind of taste, it covers the porky taste of the meat. :D
Lor Mai Gai (or is it not called Lor Mai Gai?)
Custard Bun
The custard bun is special, it has a tinge of mango, not much of the yolk taste. (ignore the rotten nails please, my matte OPI polish cracks by itself, and with the black shatter, it worsen)

Total damaged about $30 per person (and super super filling!)
Dining period is limited to about 1.5-2 hours. Staff of course will not come and chase you, but when it is about to times up, they will ask if we have anymore orders etc. Best to call & make reservations a week in advance (especially if you planned to go on a weekend/PH)

Lunch
Monday to Saturday - 12.00 noon to 3.00 pm
Sunday and Public Holiday - 11.00 am to 2.00 pm
Dinner
Daily - 6.00 pm to 10.30 pm
 Tel: (65) 6338 3363

Next we proceed downstairs for some Raffles Hotel mooncakes sampling. Then we head over to Orchard, my main motive is the Taka Mooncake Fair!
After much squeezing & sampling, we both decided on Home's Favourite Durian Mooncakes. Price is fairly ok, not too expensive unlike Four Seasons (Almost $100 for 4 large Mao Shan Wang Mooncakes).
We bought Goodwood Park's Lychee with Lime Marshmallow mooncake too (no sampling).
One thing about Home's Favourite mooncakes packaging, way too bulky! Each mooncake is packed in a individual styroform box, but the advantage is, when we reached home, mooncakes are still frozen.
Mao Shan Wang!
D24! The D24 is already good enough for me, the MSW is even better!
And this is the Lychee with Lime Marshmallow mooncake from Goodwood Park.
Dropped by Juchheim before going back to B's house. The expensive 'kueh lapis'.

Juchheim (located at B2 of Taka)

A traditional German cake called Baumkuchen, well-known for it’s reputation as the “King of Cakes”. It is a labor intensive specialty which is also called “tree cake” in German. The thin rings that form as layer upon layer of cake is baked on a spit by brushing batter and then rotating the spit around a heat source. When baked, the golden brown layers of cake resemble the growth rings on a crosscut tree. In Japan, this symbolizes long life and baumkuchen cakes are often given as wedding gift for good luck. Baumkuchen cakes are first baked in Japan by the Juchheim Company.

Now, Juchheim is opening its first store in Asia in Singapore. Baumkuchen is a traditional German cake but it has become a familiar name and taste in Japan since Karl Juchheim, the founder of Juchheim Company, introduced the first Baumkuchen to Japan in 1919. Since then, Baumkuchen is synonymous with Juchheim and vice versa.

Its $9 for the smallest one.

Dinner at CCMW 201 near boyfriend's place. Was actually still feeling very full from the dimsum.
Sea Cucumber soup (as they had ran out of fish maw) with white rice for dinner :D
