Restaurant Association of Singapore (RAS) announced that Singapore Restaurant Month will take place from 1st July 2015 to 10th August 2015.
This inaugural festival is organised by RAS, with support from the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA), Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Union Pay, will offer the public a unique opportunity to savour local produce - namely eggs, fish and vegetables - that will be featured in 50 newly-created dishes from 50 restaurant brands. Why 50? Because its SG50 this year!
Out of these 50 restaurants, there are 12 heritage restaurants that have graced the local culinary scene for decades, and they are, Bee Heong Palace Restaurant, Beng Thin Hoon Kee Restaurant, Chin Lee Restaurant, Fatty Weng Restaurant, Gim Tim, Hua Yu Wee, Islamic Restaurant, Prima Tower Revolving Restaurant, Red Star Restaurant, Spring Court Restaurant, Westlake and Zi Yean Restaurant.
Joining other lovely bloggers on a food trail to 4 of the restaurants participating in this SRM.
Pibil Pescado in Red Chile Sauce S$30++ inclusive of a SG50 Margarita or Iguana Lager
The featured local produce here is seabass which is so fresh and tender, served together with mexican rice. The salsa taste like sambal, feeling a mixture of mexican and local. Until 10th August.
3 Grain Laksa Risotto S$50 (Part of SG50 5-course menu)
The 3 grain laksa risotto is served with homemade seabass fish cake, crispy tau pork, whipper coconut cream and laksa leaf puree. The local produce is seabass.
This dish is so innovative and delicious! Until 10th August 2015.
Sauteed Bird's Nest with Egg White S$70
Local produce featured here is egg. Its my first time having savoury bird's nest! This dish is topped with bits of Jinhua Ham, the egg white is creamy and love the texture of this dish.
The chef explained to us that the egg white is disguised as crab, which i do think that it resembles crab in a way! Until 2nd August 2015.
Fried Baby Barramundi S$18/500 grams
The local produce is of course Barramundi.
I am always skeptical that my seafood dishes will always end up expensive especially those with ''market prices''. But with this dish, no fear, every barramundi weighs 500 grams, so you only pay a standard price of S$18 for this fish.
Thank you RAS for organising this event, I had fun and learn quite a few things about local produce. Thank you Rachel, Jeanette and Noelle for being the tour guide of the night!
